Home is an essential part of our lives. Our home reflects who we are and how we connect with others while providing security and comfort. For many people with developmental disability and Autism, their home is often designed by others, leaving them little control over decisions that are core to their identity.
This workshop facilitated by Valued Lives is packed with practical information and resources to help you understand individualised living and discover what is possible.
Our speakers will discuss the individualised and innovative ways people with disability can create their own homes while getting the support they need.
You’ll hear inspirational stories from family leaders who have supported their loved one to individualised living arrangements, and have the opportunity to ask them questions.
Topics covered include:
● What does it mean to have your own home, and is it possible?
● Creating your vision of what home is
● First steps to consider when creating a home of your own
● The different home options and creative supports available
● Addressing barriers, challenges and fears
● Settling in and living in your own home
● Setting up for long-term safety and success
